DEION'S TRANSITION

The man, myth, and legend known as primetime Deion Sanders is arguably one of the greatest defensive players of all time. Deion Sanders finished his career with an abundance of accolades, such as two-time Super Bowl champion, NFL defensive player of the year, Pro Football Hall of Famer, and many more. The former player is renowned for his elite play, faith, speed, style, and confidence. You can watch his highlights here. Coaches, athletes, and fans all hold Sanders in high regard. One of Deion's most well-known sayings is, "If you look good, you feel good; if you feel good, you play good; if you play good, they pay good," which is often said today. Sanders has always displayed belief and a high level of confidence for himself which can commonly be mistaken as arrogance. However, Deion has responded to critics stating, “do not let my confidence offend your insecurity.” Deion Sanders has had a major impact in the world of football and is an inspiration to both players and fans.

Despite having achieved extraordinary success as a player while playing for Florida State and in the National Football League, Sanders decided to use his leadership skills to start coaching at Trinity Christian School. He later took his skills to Jackson, Mississippi, where he became the twenty-first head coach at Jackson State, a historically black university where the late Hall of Famer Walter Payton also played. Sanders came to Jackson State to improve the football team's record and raise awareness of the inequality that exists in HBCU athletics.

The Jackson State Tigers were known for losing before Sanders joined the team. With a record of 15–29, the team had trouble coaching and lacked the skills necessary to compete with their rivals. Insert Deion Sanders, who immediately sparked change and stunned the world by convincing Travis Hunter, the top recruit overall, to reverse course on his commitment to Florida State and instead join him in Jackson, Mississippi. The college football community was in shock because, despite their beauty and rich history, HBCU football teams currently lack the facilities and million-dollar stadiums that most public college football teams have at their disposal. Hunter's decision to work with the coach at Jackson State, along with that of many other players, is evidence of Deion's leadership, charisma, and relatability as a former player who is among the best.

In three seasons with Jackson State Sanders has established an elite culture in the locker room. His incredible 27-5 winning record and current twelve game winning streak is plenty to suggests that the coach has done an incredible job at the historic university and has given hope to African American communities that deserve as many opportunities and media exposure as any other university.

The Hall of Famer has achieved great success in Jackson, he is a devout Christian and feels that God is calling him to relocate. Deion Sanders will reportedly oversee one more contest at Jackson State before moving on to lead the University of Colorado. On December 3rd, Sanders flew into Boulder, Colorado, for a press conference where he laid out his goals as a coach. You can watch the press conference here. He would also address the players in a speech that was passionate and direct, informing them that he would be bringing about significant changes to their team. Here we see Sander interacting with the players.

Deion Sanders has continued to be a winning and inspiring figure. He built on his legacy by transforming Jackson State, and he is now on his way to transforming Colorado, which was once regarded as one of the worst teams in college football. He did it once and is expected to do it again.
